Mentorship is a core part of the Startup Weekend experience and consistently one of the most valuable elements for participants.

Startup Weekend Women San Diego brings together early-stage founders and builders for an intensive three-day experience focused on customer discovery, problem validation, and business fundamentals. Mentors play a critical role by offering guidance, asking thoughtful questions, and helping teams challenge assumptions as they build.

Mentors are not expected to have all the answers. The goal is to support learning, clarity, and momentum without taking over the work.

We are looking for mentors who enjoy working with early-stage teams and are excited to share their experience in a supportive, inclusive way.

Strong mentors help teams:

Focus on validating real customer problems
Identify and test assumptions rather than making guesses
Clarify their value proposition and business model
Design and carry out simple experiments, often through customer interviews
Think critically about their industry and target market

Mentors guide teams by asking the right questions, offering perspective, and sharing lessons learned. They do not make decisions for teams or build solutions on their behalf.
